Fitness Еnthusiast Martina Tasevska shares her secrets to staying fit with Neamoda

Miami Beach based model, fitness enthusiast and mom shares her daily routine and health hacks that can benefit the quality of our lives.

I met Martina over ten years ago when I presented my collection during Miami Beach Fashion Week. She left such an impression on me and my lifestyle with her both friendly and professional approach to everything she does. Added the delicious, super healthy cuisine and dedicated and disciplined workout routine that always seem to include the best and newest fitness workouts, channeled a healthy lifestyle guru image that sticks with me ever since.

 

BILJANA: You are always fit and gorgeous. Few years ago you gave birth to adorable little Stephane, yet you look more beautiful than ever. What is your secret? Has being a mom change your life for better?

 

MARTINA: Becoming a mom has definitely changed my life for better. Although you don’t have as much time to look after yourself only, the gift of caring for a little human changes everything. For me it has been a journey of everyday blessings. We often think we make sacrifices but when what you get gives so much more to you as a human being you can’t call it sacrifice. I call that simple acts of love and I believe is what we all feed of. One of the blessings of being a mom is that your heart grows bigger and when that happens you get better in every way.

 As for how I stay in shape, here is my story for the past four years. I stopped with my usual jogging and workout routine first because of pregnancy and later because it presented a problem with breastfeeding my son, Stephane. I always had a passion for yoga, which helped me to stay active in some way during this stages of my life. However, caring for a newborn, exclusively breastfeeding and working at the same time presented a challenge for me to be consistent with my routine. Anybody who knows me well can understand how hard it is for me not to be able to exercise and be active on a regular basis, but I maintained my healthy eating habits before and after childbirth, plus the daily duties of getting everything done do help one stay in shape I guess.

 BILJANA: That sounds so uplifting, makes one wanna look forward to being a mom. Can you share your daily workout routine? Do you incorporate different kinds of workout techniques, or you like to stick to something well defined and focus on it? For example I match my morning full body workout with a set of yoga and I love long walks too.

MARTINA: My latest satisfaction has been jumping rope. Being a passionate runner for many years pre-pregnancy, I’ve discovered this new practice to be the best possible full body and cardio workout routine for me so far. This is my stress release on daily basis as of lately. I discovered a whole network of jump rope enthusiasts from all over the world on Instagram, doing the craziest things you can’t imagine to be done with a jumping rope. They inspire me on daily basis and help me bring my jump rope skills to another level by learning the core basics of posture and movement in order to advance and be able to do fun stuff.

Something that kept me accountable, motivated and inspired as well is sharing my workout routine on my Instagram. I found that what I do and post on there also motivates and helps others to learn a new skill, or start being active. As well, that helped me connect with so many likeminded people. My goal is to encourage other people, especially moms, that no matter how busy and tired we are at the end of the day that we can do this.

In my opinion, this is one of the best kept secrets in fitness. Even though the popularity of jumping rope has grown over the past few years, many are still unaware of the numerous benefits that this fun activity has to offer. It is great form of workout for all fitness levels and all ages. The benefits are endless, such as wight loss, strength, endurance, and it can be done anywhere without requiring expensive gear or equipment.

Aside from jumping rope, I also like to go biking and rollerblading with my family. We do this almost every other day. It feels good to be fit and healthy so I keep myself and my family active, it clears my mind, relaxes me and makes me feel more energized and complete so I wholeheartedly recommend it and encourage everyone to do it as well.

BILJANA: Everybody is aware of the importance of eating healthy and knowing you I affirm to your healthy cooking skills that can hardly be matched. You are definitely one of the best cooks I know. Can you share your diet secrets with us? What does your favorite menu du jour look like? What are the most important ingredients in your diet?

MARTINA: Living in America makes one acutely aware of the importance of organic food in your diet and the difference it makes. We like to eat clean and fresh, the less ingredients the better. I keep it simple by eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, lean protein ( white meat ) like chicken or fish. I get my main protein from legumes in my diet such as lentils and beans.

I usually start breakfast with fresh fruits and oats We have a lot of snacks in between meals like different kind of nuts, dry and fresh fruits.

Lunch is usually a chicken or cheese sandwich with lots of fresh vegetables.

And dinner time is big salad with some lentils and some meat. For the salad I can mix up avocados with tomatoes, onions and different type of seeds and I love a mustard honey sauce I learned from my mother in-law. 

BILJANA: Would you mind sharing your  honey mustard sauce with us? I have never actually made a honey based salad dressing although I certainly love a sweet fruity taste mixed in my salad. 

MARTINA: You can try it and let me know if you like it? I absolutely adore it. It’s super easy to make and all you need to look out for is the quality of the ingredients you use. Organic honey and Dijon mustard are the best but you can twist it to your taste. Hope everyone will enjoy it!

I keep it simple by eating lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, my main protein intake is from legumes, such as lentils and beans, and once or twice a week I eat lean protein such as chicken and fish.

Usually my breakfast contains fresh fruits and oats, but I also like to have scrambled eggs with fresh tomatoes and avocado once or twice a week. Breakfast is one of the most important meals in my home.

We like snacking between meals, stuff like nuts, dried and fresh fruits, hummus with carrots, yogurt…

 Lunch is usually something quick because most of the time we are on the go. Some of our favorites are chicken sandwich with cheese and fresh veggies.

 And for dinner time, we always have a big salad. For the salad I usually mix up greens with avocados, tomatoes, onions and different types of seeds and nuts, along with my favorite honey mustard dressing I learned from my mother in law. I like to play around with the proteins for dinner, sometimes we may have lean chicken, salmon, or plant based proteins such as beans, lentils or chickpeas.

A Breakfast the Whole Family Loves

It’s fair to say that Overnight Oats are quite possibly the best thing to happen for breakfast. At least for my family. By some miracle, these humble little oats make everyone happy.

OVERNIGHT OATS RECIPE 

Overnight oats are an alternative way of preparing oatmeals.

Rather than cooking oats in boiling water and serving hot, as with oatmeal, here you combine rolled oats with cold milk, yogurt (at least in this case), and chia seeds. A much more hands-off cooking technique, the oats and chia seeds absorb the liquid from the milk and yogurt as you sleep or go on with your day. Four to six hours later, you have cold, creamy, soft and chewy, luscious oats.

DELICIOUS & NUTRITIOUS – ENERGY BOMB

 

This simple recipe is incredibly easy to prepare.

Transfer your oats in a large container or large mason jar with a secure lid. 

  1. In a separate bowl stir together the yogurt with the chia seeds and mix well to combine. Adding the chia seeds to the yogurt (rather than the milk) prevents them from clumping together.

  2. Mix everything together – Add the milk, vanilla extract, and yogurt with chia seeds to the oats. Mix well. 

  3. Cover with an airtight lid and store in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours to overnight.

  4. When ready to serve, dump the toppings directly into the jar or divide into bowls and add toppings.

MINI CAPRESSE SANDWICHESS WITH TOMATO BASIL AND MOZARELA SPRINKLED WITH FINE BALSAMIC VINAIGRETTE CUCUMBERTOMATO ONION AND AVOCADO SALAD

HONEY MUSTARD DRESSING

 

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 tsp Salt

  • 1 tsp Honey

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard

  • 1 tbs Balsamic vinegar

  • 3 tbs Olive oil

Preparation:

Add the salt, honey, mustard and balsamic vinegar in a small bowl. Mix them well than add the olive oil. Use fork to mix it all together until you get a creamy texture. 

Optional you can add black pepper or other spices you may like.

Use as a dressing for your salad of choice.
